Steve Morgan was one of California's youngest professional shapers in the 1970s, first picking up a planer in 1973 at the age of 14 and opening his first surf shop, "Green Lantern Surfboards" in 1977. Two years later, Morgan was hired as a shaper for Dick Brewer Surfboards and In 1980, formed a parthership with Gary Linden in which the two took control of the Brewer surfboard  factory in Oceanside, CA, the shop serving as a gathering place for some of the best surfers of the era. After Linden's departure in 1984, Morgan and Brewer continued to work together as sole partners,  relocating to the island of Kauai. Although intermittent, Morgan's working relationship with Dick Brewer would continue until his passing in 2022. 

Other labels that Morgan shaped boards for in those early years included Lightning Bolt (Maui), Hobie, Oak Street, and later on, Wisdom in Japan.  From 1986- 1997, Morgan also shaped boards in his own shop on Molokai under  the label"This Island Earth". 

In 2002, Morgan  began shaping for Hawaiian Island Creations (HIC) , working along side shapers Eric Arakawa and Kerry Takoro. As Morgan shares, “The level of refinement and commitment of these two shapers surpassed anything else I saw at that time, I wanted to be a part of the team”. With both West Coast and Hawaiian influence, Morgan's expertise in longboard, fish, and alternative designs, offered  a welcomed diversity to the HIC lineup. 24 years later Morgan continues to shape under the iconic HIC brand.
